Data protection in Ecuador: a comparative law analysis
Abstract
The overall objective of the research was to analyze data protection in Ecuador, a comparative law analysis. The study used a qualitative approach. It was based on the technique of documentary data collection, through which laws, official gazettes, and scientific articles were reviewed. Similarly, the technique of documentary review was used, since an analysis from a comparative law perspective was proposed to determine the strengths and weaknesses that emerge from the comparison of data protection in Ecuador, the Federative Republic of Brazil, the Republic of Colombia, and the Republic of Peru. In conclusion, the right to privacy has helped individuals in the processing of personal data. Following these precedents, the retention of personal data has reached its peak in the judicial and legal systems of countries without data protection regulations or statutes.
