Kichua-Spanish bilingual strategies to strengthen academic achievement in chemistry in rural areas.
Abstract
The objective of this study was to analyze the Kichwa-Spanish bilingual strategies used to strengthen academic performance in Chemistry in students from rural areas. The research was developed under a qualitative, phenomenological approach, with the purpose of understanding the students' experiences in learning scientific concepts through linguistic mediation. We had the cooperation of 5 intentionally selected students. Semi-structured interviews and participant observation were applied as techniques, using interview guides and field records as instruments. The results showed that the use of bilingual strategies, such as the translation of scientific terms into Kichwa, the cultural contextualization of examples and collaborative work, improved the understanding of the contents and active participation in class. It was concluded that bilingualism has favored inclusion, identity strengthening and academic performance.
